Black tea is produced in many countries. India,China, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Turkey, are some of the major producers. The most popular teas are CTC ( cut, tear and curl),FOP (flowery orange pekoe)and FOP1( flowery orange pekoe first grade) grades. Although those teas are lower grade that full leaf teas they are produced from th esame tea leaf.

In the final stage of tea production the tea leaves are siffted. The first screen is very fine separating all fine perticles of the tea leafcalled fannings. Fannings are used in tea bags. The second screen separates larger pieces of the tea leaf ( FOP grade ). This grade is used to produce folavored teas. This grade makes a strong cup of tea due to small particles penetrated quickly by hot water. BOP1 is a larger grade. The next grade is a tea grade refered as "full leaf".There are many variations of teas and grades produced pleas see "tea grades" page for more detailed explanation.
